General Questions
Can our child fall out?
No, not if you carefully follow the instructions in the “How to Wear” section. If your child is properly positioned, your sling will keep them secure. Also, it is important to use common sense and hold onto your baby if you are leaning over, reaching down, etc.
Our little one is getting red behind the legs?
When in the seated position (i.e., with legs out the bottom of the sling), the sling should be spread out under your child’s bum, and thighs and extend to behind the knees – with their bum a little lower than there knees – just like a little hammock chair.
Our baby doesn’t seem to like the sling?
Babies generally love movement, so get your baby in securely and start moving – walking, bouncing, swaying. Your child will learn to associate the sling with movement. Also, try different positions. Many babies don’t like to be in the Cradle Position unless they are sleeping or breastfeeding and when babies get bigger, they enjoy seeing there world and may want a position that allows them to experience the world around them!
Our baby doesn't look comfortable in the sling, they look all squished up, is this ok?
Babies love to be swaddled and to have their limbs snuggly contained, essentually this is what happens in the sling. Remember if your baby is a newborn, they were just in such a tucked and contorted position in your womb. They are often comforted and soothed by this type of position. If your baby seems happy and content, they are probably comfortable even if they look like a little yogi.
My neck/shoulder are aching?
Be sure the fabric is spread out evenly over your shoulder and that it is not twisted along your back. You can also try wearing your sling on the opposite shoulder, be sure not to slouch, and try wearing your child higher up on your body and snuggled in tight against you.
Can I use my gurumama baby carrier for travel?
Absolutely, this is when I find gurumama slings particularly helpful. Public transportation and air travel are made so much simpler with a sling. Never use a sling to replace a carseat.
Our child often falls asleep in their sling, is there a way to keep them in the sling for sleeping?
Yes, simply support your baby, loosen the tension if using a ring sling. Carefully lean over the bed, crib or other safe sleeping spot and gently ease your body out of the sling, leaving your child snuggly in the sling “nest”. Be sure that the baby’s face is not covered by material and that they can not get tangled in the sling or roll off the sleeping surface.
Questions About gurumama Pouch Slings
Why should I consider a pouch sling over other types of carriers?
Oh, there are so many reasons. People love that they are compact, require no adjusting, are easy to use, and versatile for a variety of sizes of babies and children.
I am not sure if my sling fits?
Generally, the bottom of the sling should hang somewhere close to your belly button. If it is lower than this you probably need it smaller or if it feels uncomfortably tight with your baby in it, you probably need a size up. Remember, custom sizing is available at no extra charge, proper fit is extremely important.
When wearing my child in the hip carry they lean way back?
gurumama pouch slings are designed so that you can pull the top layer of fabric that rests on your shoulder, down and over the outside edge of your shoulder to help pull your child in towards you. Not to mention this looks very funky because of the reversible nature of our slings!
Questions About gurumama Ring Slings
The rings are hurting my shoulder?
Simply try adjusting the rings so that they are lower down at your armpit level or tucking some of the tail fabric under the rings.
The rings are bothering the baby in certain positions?
You can tuck the tail fabric in around the rings and this should help.
The sling is twisted in the rings and hard to adjust?
Re-thread your sling or loosen the material in the rings and untwist while pulling the fabric to either side as it comes out through the rings.
When I tighten up my sling the rings end up too low?
Try tightening your sling up more before putting the baby in or start with the rings further toward your back before adjusting.
I am having a difficult time adjusting the sling?
Try holding the weight of your child in one hand while using the other hand to adjust the sling, this helps to take the tension off the material and make adjustment easier. Also, the more you wash and use your sling, the easier it gets to adjust.
